UNIVA America, Inc., provided sales support for a “Shimane Food Fair” hosted by Shimane Prefecture. The event was held at Sunrise Mart, which is located in Japan Village, Brooklyn, NY.

A variety of special products from Shimane Prefecture were on sale for a limited time on March 9–10. The fair featured more than 30 types of local delicacies, such as a rockfish from Sealife that was made famous by tennis player Kei Nishikori, Takasago’s soy sauce, laver boiled down in soy from Sea Food Products Matsumura, Hirano’s ready-to-eat clams from Lake Shinji, and rose syrup from Okuizumo rose garden. The fair proved to be a big success.

Japan Village is a large complex that opened in November 2018 in Brooklyn’s Industry City area that centers on a Japanese food court. Sunrise Mart, a grocery store that deals mainly with Japanese food products, is a key element of that complex. There are also other liquor and food shops there in addition to Sunrise Mart, and customers can enjoy Japanese foods like onigiri (rice balls), bento (box lunches), okonomiyaki (Japanese-style pancakes), takoyaki (octopus balls), and ramen. The complex has drawn a lot of attention because it is the first time in New York that a food court has been created that focuses only on Japanese food.
