UNIVA America, Inc., provided sales support for an “Aomori Food Fair” hosted by Aomori Prefecture’s Hachinohe City. The event was held at Sunrise Mart, which is located in Japan Village, Brooklyn, NY.

A variety of special products from Hachinohe City went on sale for a limited time from February 22 to 24. The fair featured more than 30 types of the local delicacies, such as Kakuno-ya’s boiled scallops, a mackerel simmered in miso, dashi varieties from Shizuoka-ya, and a yogurt drink from Shingo Village. Incidentally, the fair, which proved to be a big success, marked the first time that the Brooklyn Sunrise Mart had ever held a food/product fair featuring a local area of Japan.

Japan Village is a large complex that opened in November 2018 in Brooklyn’s Industry City area that centers on a Japanese food court. Sunrise Mart, a grocery store that deals mainly with Japanese food products, is a key element of that complex. There are also other liquor and food shops there in addition to Sunrise Mart, and customers can enjoy Japanese foods like rice balls (onigiri), bento (a box lunch), okonomiyaki (a Japanese-style pancake), takoyaki (octopus balls), and ramen. The complex has drawn a lot of attention because it is the first time in New York that a food court has been created that focuses only on Japanese food.
